If rap music is your thing, you might want to check out this new rap artists website where you can check out top artists, the latest releases, and connect with other people in the forum.
I consider myself from the “old school” when it comes to rap. Favorites on my list include Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, Wu Tang Clan and all those who were big in the late 80’s through the 90’s.
Awhile back I expressed my thoughts on some of the rap music that’s been coming out. Many people have said things like, “Well, if you don’t like it, then don’t listen to it.” Well, I don’t listen to it, but I still think it’s a bad influence on our young kids who grow up wanting to emulate the lifestyles of rap artists. At the same time I understand that we all have a freedom of expression. If you want to talk about sex, drugs, and killing people, that’s fine…but how is that making someone else’s life better? Are those words inspiring and uplifting?

One of my more popular posts over at my other blog, The Good Life, is this one titled, “This Hip-Hop Controversy“. I aired my grievances about hip-hop/rap music and how it just wasn’t inspiring anymore. Granted, there are some great beats and I like to dance or work out to hip-hop, but as far as the words go…bleh.
Well, there are one or two hip-hop artists out there right now who are saying
things that actually mean something. Common is one of those artists who knows how to stimulate a person’s mind. Nas is another. Hmm…who else?
During my early 20’s Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, LL Cool J, and others were always bumpin’ in the club and sure, they had good songs to groove to. However, I’m growing up now and aren’t they too? When will hip-hop grow up? All I’m asking is that we get a few songs that don’t talk about drinking, sex, or how blinged out your car is.

I was listening to the radio the other day as I exercised and heard a rap song. I have no idea who the artist is or what the title to the song is. All I know is that it talked about getting a girl into bed, getting drunk, and all the money that he had.
Seems like nothing has changed much in the rap industry, eh?
What bothers me the most about this is that young people like these kinds of songs. They are being spoon fed these ideas that money and sex is “cool”.
What happened to speaking and singing from the soul versus doing what an agent or producer says will “sell records”.
It’s time to stop thinking about selling records and start thinking about how we can uplift the spirits of these young souls! We’ve become a nation that lives for the pursuit of money instead of living for the sake of simply enjoying life, spreading love, and making a difference in this world.
Do you think singing about sex, alcohol, and money is making a difference?
