Music That Touches Our Soul

Written on February 2, 2007 – 10:31 pm | by NoSongUnsung |

I came across this very eloquent post by a UCSF Medical Student who explains what music means to her.  The words in the post could have been a song itself:

“…If I concentrated hard enough, I could almost sense the beauty, the aching loveliness, inherent in the music and the way that the notes seemed to linger, float, twirl, and make complex arabesques. The music seemed to fluidly progress into an invisible maelstrom that pulled me, and I could just feel the edges of something else. “

It’s been awhile since I’ve really felt in tune with a song – no pun intended!

For some reason, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston come to mind right now.  These women’s voices I can feel.  I remember singing in my bedroom as a young girl and trying to mimic the way Whitney Houston sang and how Mariah Carey moved her hands up and down.  I felt their music in my soul… Perhaps it had something to do with the words in their songs and my own personal struggles with love and identity.

When was the last time you felt the music touch your soul?
